Integration documentation for editorial and journal management systems
Scholvet Integration Documentation

Getting started

Integrating your editorial system with Scholvet

Scholvet gives journal management systems one API to find qualified peer reviewers, invite them in confidence and receive their answers. This guide covers everything an integration needs, from the first request to verifying webhooks.

The integration at a glance

  1. Search. Send the article's title, abstract, keywords and the authors' affiliations. You receive ranked reviewer codes with a match score.
  2. Invite. Invite one or more codes from that search. Scholvet notifies the reviewer by e-mail and in their panel.
  3. Listen. Receive the reviewer's answer on your webhook, or read the invitation when you need it.
  4. Assign. Once the reviewer accepts, the invitation carries their name, e-mail, ORCID iD and institution. Assign them in your system.
  5. Confirm. When the review is complete, confirm it. This is how the reviewer is recognised for the work.

Basics

Format
JSON in UTF-8 for requests and responses. Field names are camelCase. Errors use application/problem+json.
Timestamps
ISO 8601 in UTC, for example 2026-10-28T09:20:11Z.
Authentication
An API key per journal, sent in the X-Api-Key header.

Environments

There is one environment, live. A separate test environment is not offered at the moment. Searches have no side effects and are free, so build and test your integration with them; send invitations only for real articles, and cancel one sent by mistake at once with POST /v1/invitations/{id}/cancel.

Getting access

Institutions register at console.scholvet.com and get an API key at once. Until Scholvet verifies the institution and activates its plan, the key works for searches; invitations then become available. A system that hosts many journals (a journal management platform) registers each journal under the institution that publishes it.

Quickstart

Examples use the live address.

1. Check that your key works. The response names the journal the key belongs to.

Request
curl https://api.scholvet.com/v1/me \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $SCHOLVET_API_KEY"
Response
{
  "id": 42,
  "name": "Journal of Medical Imaging Research",
  "issn": "1234-5678",
  "webhookConfigured": true
}

2. Search reviewers for an article.

Request
curl -X POST https://api.scholvet.com/v1/reviewer-searches \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $SCHOLVET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "articleRef": "JMIR-2026-0104",
    "title": "Deep learning for tumour detection in brain MRI",
    "abstract": "We evaluate convolutional neural networks for tumour detection...",
    "keywords": ["deep learning", "medical imaging", "derin öğrenme", "tıbbi görüntüleme"],
    "authors": [
      { "orcid": "0000-0002-1825-0097", "institution": "Hacettepe University" },
      { "institution": "Başkent University", "rorId": "https://ror.org/02v9bqx10" }
    ],
    "maxResults": 10
  }'

3. Invite a reviewer from the search result.

Request
curl -X POST https://api.scholvet.com/v1/invitations \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $SCHOLVET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "searchId": "0b4f6c1e-5c1a-4a7e-9d0f-7f1c2a9e3b55",
    "reviewerCode": "SV-7KQ2MX4P",
    "externalRef": "your-invitation-881",
    "articleTitle": "Deep learning for tumour detection in brain MRI",
    "articleAbstract": "We evaluate convolutional neural networks...",
    "message": "We would value your opinion on this manuscript.",
    "respondByDays": 7,
    "reviewDays": 21
  }'
